The Times They Are A-changing
Monday, September 21st, 2009“Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changing”
Bob Dylan put it perfectly in his song the times they are a-changing, although he wrote about political and social changes in the 1960s, the message is still applicable to everyday life. For the truth is that in life everything changes, in fact it was once said that change is the only constant.
It is human nature to fear change or at least to resist it, we perceive change with all of its negative connotations and never open our eyes to the opportunities it brings.
Change is not harmful but rather acts as a catalyst for re-invention, innovation and development. Through change we can grow and reach new heights never dreamed of.
Through times of crisis and change the seas ahead seem rough, but the truth is we are the captains of our ships, we set the sails in the direction we want to go. We decide whether the change will be the detriment or saviour of us all.
We need to fight for what we want, we need to stand strong in the face of major changes and turn our fears into opportunities.
Bob Dylan did say:
“For he that gets hurt
will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside
And it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake the windows
and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changing”
